Some Family Time

"Do not kiss your children so they will kiss you back, but so they will kiss their children, and their children's children." -- Noah ben Shea

Standing Fast

Sometimes standing and fighting doesn't always look like standing and fighting. Typically, we picture it as holding our ground and putting up our dukes. But, sometimes it can look like cutting and running. I would imagine that any ground soldier could tell you that standing fast can sometimes mean changing your ground in order to win the fight. It would be foolish to hold one particular spot of real estate and get cut down when all you would've had to do is move to a better position.

Even the victorious fight that was waged by our Lord to win our redemption looked like defeat. A cross certainly doesn't seem like the evidence of a victory - not at first sight, not by human eyes and understanding. Therein lies my encouragement. Standfast. Even when it doesn't look like it.

Christmas Day Continued

Christmas Joy

Oh, the fun of Christmas Day! Good food, good fun, the joy of giving, the thankfulness in receiving, happy faces, happy memories.

"When I think of Christmas Eves, Christmas feasts, Christmas songs, and Christmas stories, I know that they do not represent a short and transient gladness. Instead, they speak of a joy unspeakable and full of glory. God so loved the world that He sent His Son. Whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. That is Christmas joy. That is the Christmas Spirit." ~ Corrie Ten Boom.

Getting Ready for Christmas!

Getting ready for Christmas is half the fun, but having the entire family under one roof is ALL the fun! As Edith Schaeffer once wrote, "There is something about saying, 'We always do this,' which helps keep the years together. Time is such an elusive thing that if we keep on meaning to do something interesting, but never do it, year would follow year with no special thoughtfulness being expressed in making gifts, surprises, charming table settings, and familiar, favorite food. Tradition is a good gift intended to guard the best gifts."

7's on 8

Today, the 8th, I am writing about yesterday, the 7th. Yesterday morning I met a friend at 7:00 a.m. for a long walk. It was overcast, humid and 70 degrees. So, for a moment in time, it was 70 degrees at 7 minutes , 7 seconds after 7:00 on 07.07.07! That's pretty cool.

But the best thing about 07.07.07 was that the only daughter of dear friends was married. What blessed celebrations are weddings! What pictures of the promises in Christ and His covenant. May God bless richly the unified lives of these two children of His.

Like The Dew of Hermon!

"Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity.
It is like the precious oil on the head,
Running down on the beard,
On the beard of Aaron,
Running down on the collar of his robes!
It is like the dew of Hermon,
Which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
Life forevermore."

It is one of my great blessings, privileges, and joys to work with the group of people that comprise the Board of Trustees at Franklin Classical School. The unity of vision and purpose, together with all the diverse giftings and abilities, causes me to rejoice every time we come together to work. My body may be tired after those meetings, but my heart and spirit are full of joy and soaring with thankfulness to God, our Father, for the work he is doing in the school and in each of our lives. Sola Deo Gloria!
